Know Your Customer (KYC) is a licence and anti-money-laundering check. It is not a cashier error, and it is not a sign that a withdrawal has already failed. At many European real money casinos the request appears before the first cashout, even when the deposit was accepted in seconds.

A completed deposit only means the payment method worked. It does not mean the operator has finished identifying you, confirming your age, or matching the withdrawal destination to your name. That gap is what catches people out.

Important: Gambling is for adults aged 18+ or the minimum legal age in your country. Gambling involves financial risk and should be treated as entertainment, not as a way to make money.

What Casino KYC Is

KYC is how a licensed operator confirms you are a real person of legal age, using payment details that belong to you. The core is identity and age. When asked, it also covers ownership of the card, e-wallet or bank account. Source of funds is a further request. It is not a default pack that every player is asked to send.

The check can be required by the casino, by a payment partner, or by conditions on the operator’s licence. You still deal with the site you play on. The reason the check exists comes from the AML rules of the operator’s licence country, together with age and payment-ownership rules. Completing it does not make gambling a source of income. It only allows the casino to process an eligible balance under its terms.

Register with the name and address that appear on your ID, and send files only through the channel the casino opens. A generic list copied from another website is how files get rejected.

If you are still choosing a site, start from our real money casinos comparison and the payments guide. Verification belongs in that decision, next to licence, country eligibility and withdrawal conditions.

When Verification Usually Appears

Operators do not all ask at the same point. Common moments are account registration, the first withdrawal, a larger cashout, a change of payment method, or a risk flag on the account. Some brands collect documents before you deposit. Others let play start and open the request when you try to take money out. The second pattern is ordinary. It is not a broken cashier. Passing a check once also does not close the file forever. A later cashout, a new payment method or a risk flag can open another request.

Pay n Play, Trustly and BankID can skip a registration form. They do not skip identity. At player level, the bank or open banking service already holds your name and account. The casino can still request documents later, especially on a withdrawal. Our no account casinos page describes that way of depositing. It is not a promise that personal documents will never be asked for, and it is not a category of no-KYC casinos.

The same reading applies to EU casinos that advertise a short sign-up. A delayed form is a product choice. Licence conditions and that operator’s terms decide when play can start relative to verification. That mix varies by brand. It is not a rule you can generalise across European countries from a cashier that accepts euros.

What They Typically Ask You to Send

There is no single three-document set that every casino uses. Open the request on your account and send that list. These are the types European players see most often.

Proof of identity (POI). A valid passport, national ID card or driving licence, shown in full so every corner is visible. In much of Europe a national ID card is a normal POI. A passport is not the only accepted document. The name, date of birth and photograph must match the account.

Proof of address (POA). A recent utility bill, bank statement or official letter that shows your name and residential address as they appear on the account. Each operator defines “recent” in its own instructions. Do not assume a number of months copied from another guide.

Payment proof. A redacted card image, an e-wallet screenshot, or an IBAN record in your name. The point is that the withdrawal method belongs to you. Cover the middle digits of a card if the cashier says you may. Leave the name and the last digits readable if that is what they asked for.

Source of funds (SoF). Only when they ask. Typical files are a payslip or a bank statement that shows where the deposited money came from. Operators set their own triggers. There is no published euro amount that always opens this request, so a threshold you saw elsewhere is not a rule you can rely on.

Selfie or liveness. Some casinos ask for a photo of you holding the ID, or run a short in-app liveness check, so the face on the document matches the person using the account.

Send only what they requested. Extra files do not shorten the review.

How to Send Documents

Use the upload in the cashier or account area, or the address the operator gives you in that ticket. Do not send identity documents to an email address found in a search result. Do not email documents to CasinoKix. CasinoKix is a comparison site and cannot process KYC for an operator.

The name on the account, the name on the ID and the name on the payment method should match. A shortened first name, a married name that is not on the ID, or a card in someone else’s name is a common reason a first cashout stays in review.

One clear colour photograph is enough. Keep the corners in frame, avoid glare, and do not crop the edges. A black-and-white scan or a photo of a screen is how files come back. If they ask for both sides of a card or ID, send both sides in the same ticket.

Finishing KYC does not, by itself, make a payout instant. The cashier still has to approve the request, and the payment method still has to settle. Our fast payout casinos list is the place to compare operators that advertise quicker processing after verification. The review window that counts is the one stated on that casino, not a range reprinted from other KYC guides.

If Verification Stalls

Ask which document failed and why. “Pending” does not tell you whether the ID was blurred, the address letter was too old, or the payment name did not match. A specific rejection is something you can replace. A vague hold is not.

Contact the operator first, using the complaints path in its terms. If that does not resolve the file, use the player route attached to the licence named in the website footer. Our Malta casinos hub and the 2022 how to choose an MGA casino post explain the licence label. They are not a complaint form, and CasinoKix cannot escalate a document review on your behalf.

If you are still comparing sites, the same order (licence, country eligibility, payments, then verification) is the one in our 5 tips for finding a suitable online casino.

Limits Still Apply After Verification

Passing KYC confirms who you are. It does not raise the amount you should spend and it does not remove deposit, loss or time limits. Those tools still apply after the account is verified. Set them before the next session, not after a cashout arrives.

If gambling stops being enjoyable or begins affecting your finances or everyday life, stop playing and use the help listed in our responsible gambling guide.
