Divine Fortune Slot Review

Divine Fortune is one of the few progressive jackpot slots that is genuinely enjoyable to play for its own sake. NetEnt released it in 2017, set it in a moody Greek mythology world and built it around Wilds that keep moving: they fall down the reels, trigger respins and, in the right spot, expand to cover a whole reel. Beneath that sits a separate coin game offering three jackpots, the top one a progressive Mega Jackpot that keeps growing until someone wins it.

The result is a medium-volatility slot with a regular rhythm of small features and a rare, life-changing prize in the background. It is a good choice if you like the idea of a jackpot but do not want to play a dull game to chase it.

A mythological stage

The reels sit in front of a dark Greek temple, with creatures from Greek myth as the premium symbols and card values as the low pays. Zeus, lightning in hand, introduces the free spins. The colours are deep blues and golds, and the music is a slow, dramatic score that suits the theme without becoming tiring.

It is a polished but calm presentation. The movement comes from the Wilds sliding down the reels and the coins lighting up, not from constant animation. That makes it a comfortable game for longer sessions, and the controls are simple enough to learn in a minute.

Falling Wilds and respins

The core feature is the Falling Wild. When a Wild lands anywhere on the reels, wins are paid and the Wild slides down one position. That move triggers a free respin, with the Wild in its new place. If it is still on the reels after the respin, it falls again and you get another respin.

A Wild that lands on the top row therefore gives you more respins than one that lands on the bottom row. Several Wilds at once mean more spins of action. During those respins, new Wilds, free spins scatters and jackpot coins can also land, so the feature often feeds into the others.

This gives the base game a steady sense of movement. Even when a spin does not pay, a Wild on the top row tells you that two more chances are coming, which keeps sessions lively in a way many jackpot slots never manage.

Wild on Wild: when a reel turns gold

The second Wild feature is more dramatic. During a respin, overlay Wilds can land on top of an existing Wild. When that happens, the Wild expands and covers the entire reel. Wins are paid, the expanded Wild shifts down one position per respin, and each respin adds two overlay Wilds on that reel.

A whole-reel Wild touches all twenty paylines at once, so a single expansion can link up several wins. It does not guarantee a big payout, because you still need matching symbols on the other reels, but it is the moment when the base game can produce its biggest results.

Free spins with reel-covering Wilds

Three or more free spins scatters start the bonus round. The number of spins depends on how many scatters triggered it:

  • 3 scatters: 5 free spins
  • 4 scatters: 8 free spins
  • 5 scatters: 12 free spins

In free spins, every Wild immediately becomes a Wild on Wild and covers the whole reel. It then falls and respins as it would in the base game. That is the key upgrade: in the bonus, any Wild can turn into a full Wild reel, and two or three of those at once can produce strong wins.

There is one detail worth knowing. If a spin triggers free spins and also contains a Wild, the Falling Wild respins from that spin are not lost. They are played after the free spins round ends.

Five free spins is not a lot, so many rounds end without anything spectacular. The feature is a pleasant boost rather than the main source of the game’s big outcomes, which is why the jackpot game matters so much here.

The Jackpot Bonus Game

The Jackpot Bonus Game can only be triggered in the main game. Bonus symbols, shown as coins, land on the reels with a random value of between 10x and 200x the bet. If three or more of them are on the reels after the final spin of a round, including any Falling Wild respins, the jackpot game begins.

In the jackpot game, the reels spin with golden coins only. Filling one row with coins wins the Minor Jackpot. Filling two rows wins the Major Jackpot. Filling all three rows, the whole grid, wins the progressive Mega Jackpot, which grows as people play the game across many casinos. The coins collected along the way pay their values too.

Because Falling Wild respins count towards the coins, a base spin with a Wild and a couple of coins can become tense. Each respin is another chance for the third coin. That link between the features is the cleverest part of the design.

How one spin can chain the features together

The features are at their best when they overlap, so it helps to picture a typical sequence. A spin lands a Wild on the top row of reel three and one bonus coin on reel five. The Wild pays what it can, falls to the middle row and gives a respin. On that respin a second coin appears on reel one. The Wild drops again to the bottom row for one more respin, and now the question is simple: will a third coin land before the Wild leaves the reels?

If an overlay Wild lands on the falling one during those respins, reel three turns completely Wild and the respins continue with two extra overlay Wilds on that reel. If the third coin arrives, the jackpot game starts once the respins finish. If neither happens, the sequence ends with whatever small line wins it produced.

Most sequences end that third way. Still, the possibility of a chain gives many ordinary spins a second and third act, and that is the main reason the game feels busier than its 20% hit frequency suggests.

RTP, volatility and the jackpot effect

NetEnt lists the RTP at 96.59% with medium volatility and a 20% hit frequency. That last figure is lower than many slots, so you will see a fair number of empty spins, but the respins and features spread the action out.

It is worth remembering that the RTP includes the jackpots. Part of what the game pays back over the long term comes from the Mega Jackpot, which almost nobody will win. For everyday play, that means sessions usually return a little less than you might expect from the headline figure. Our guides on slot RTP and jackpot slots explain how this works in more detail.

The maximum for regular wins is 1,000 times the bet. The progressive Mega Jackpot sits outside that limit and can be far larger, depending on how much the pool has grown.

How to approach Divine Fortune with your stake

The bet range runs from €0.20 to €100 per spin across 20 fixed lines.

  • Treat the Mega Jackpot as a bonus, not a goal. It is extremely rare, and chasing it with bigger stakes rarely ends well.
  • A stake you can sustain for a few hundred spins gives the Wilds and features time to appear.
  • Check the size of the Mega Jackpot in the game before playing, but do not let a large pool push your budget higher.

The Divine Fortune family

NetEnt later released Divine Fortune Megaways, which moves the theme to a six-reel Megaways grid with a different bonus structure and a bigger fixed top prize. It is more volatile and more complex. The original remains the version to play if the progressive jackpot game is what attracts you.

Among other NetEnt jackpot titles, Mega Fortune is the famous predecessor, built around a jackpot wheel rather than a coin game. For Greek mythology with very different mechanics, Gates of Olympus offers tumbling wins and multipliers, and Rise of Olympus uses a grid where the gods clear the board. Divine Fortune strengths and weaknesses

What works:

  • Falling Wilds give the base game frequent extra respins
  • Wild on Wild can turn a reel completely Wild
  • A progressive Mega Jackpot without a dull base game
  • Medium volatility suits most budgets

What doesn’t:

  • Free spins rounds are short and often modest
  • Regular wins are capped at 1,000x
  • The 20% hit frequency means many empty spins
  • Part of the RTP is tied up in a jackpot few players will win

Our verdict on Divine Fortune

Divine Fortune does something many progressive slots fail to do: it makes the time between jackpots entertaining. The Falling Wilds keep spins moving, the Wild on Wild expansions give the base game real highlights, and every coin that lands carries a small chance of something special. The free spins could be more generous and the regular ceiling is modest, but as an all-round jackpot slot it remains one of NetEnt’s best.
